Accessibility
Visual design
The UK Insolvency Helpline web site uses cascading style sheets (CSS) for visual layout and uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified 'text size' option in visual browsers. If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable. Every effort has been taken to maintain high background/foreground contrast at all times.
Printing
A stylesheet for print is used to ensure that pages printed from this site are well structured on paper, with all unnecessary page elements, such as banners and navigation, removed.
Font Size
This site uses relative font sizes, which enables users to change text to a more suitable size using their browser.
Enquiry Forms
All our enquiry forms follow a logical Tab sequence. Labels are associated with fields using HTML label and CSS ID tags.
Scripting
This site makes some use of JavaScript scripting for visual effects. However, all content remains fully accessible if scripting is unavailable or disabled.
Links
- Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target.
- There are no "javascript:" pseudo-links (null links). All links can be followed in any browser, even if scripting is turned off.
- There are virtually no links that open new windows. Where these are used it is to improve usability.
- Wherever possible, links are written to make sense out of context. Many browsers (such as JAWS, Home Page Reader, Lynx, and Opera) can extract the list of links on a page and allow the user to browse the list, separately from the page.
Standards compliance
- Where possible all pages are intended to comply with all priority 1, 2, and 3 guidelines of the W3 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. All pages validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional.
- All pages use structured semantic XHTML markup. If you find any accessibility problems with our site, please let us know and we will do our best to fix them. You can e-mail us by using the 'Email Us' hyperlink on the left-hand menu.

Navigating The UK Insolvency Helpline website
Your starting point when entering The UK Insolvency Helpline website depends on how you arrived at the website. For example if you came from a search engine link, this would usually take you to the home page of the site; or if you had bookmarked one of the content areas, then that would be your starting point. Or you may have got to The UK Insolvency Helpline website via a link from another website to a particular page or section.
All text links are dark blue and underlined. When you move your mouse cursor over a link (known as ‘rolling over'), the text will change to red. As soon as you click on a text link and view the content, the link will change to light blue. This way, you can always tell which sections you have looked at and which not.
As you browse through the content, a breadcrumb trail will appear above the page’s main heading and will indicate where you are in the site from the home page. For example, >Home>bankruptcy>IVA application will be seen on the IVA form page. Selecting a link from the breadcrumb trail will take you to that page.
Note: If you are not sure whether something is a link, move the cursor over a word; if it's a link, the cursor will change from an arrow to a hand with the finger extended.
